Course Content:

The Volta SNAP training course will give a comprehensive overview of everything you need to know about how to use the Volta SNAP energy modelling platform. This interactive training course will have you modelling along with the instructor, getting hands-on experience with Volta SNAP. A laptop with internet access is required to participate in this training session.

The Basics

Start with a high-level overview of Volta SNAP. We’ll go over how to navigate the app and highlight the “core workflow”: the quickest way to get fast and valuable results from the platform. This core workflow will teach you how to start with an existing HOT2000 file, get F280 results, and compare a variety of upgrade pathways in minutes.

Creating a Model

The training will then take a deep dive into the different ways you can create and edit a model, going beyond the bounds of HOT2000, and highlighting a number of different geometry input and takeoff tools within the app. We will also go over how to convert a typical “whole-home” model into a “room-by-room” model.

Modelling Outputs Deep Dive

After creating a model from scratch, we’ll run simulations and do a deep dive into the different outputs provided in the app. We’ll also go over key differences between ERS/Code compliance and F280 modelling best practices. This portion of the training will also demonstrate the ability to run EnergyPlus simulations side by side with HOT2000.

Parametric and Community Analysis

We’ll then use the parametric analysis tool to quickly investigate thousands of potential upgrade pathways on our buildings, helping to find the lowest-cost building designs that meet our goals. Afterwards, we’ll showcase the community analysis tool, which will let you analyze different design decisions across multiple homes at once, seeing impacts at the community or development level.

Sneak Peek of What’s to Come

The training will end with a sneak peek of what’s to come, including a demonstration of our mobile app for on-site data collection (including LiDAR for those with compatible devices).

Heat Loss/Heat Gain for Energy Advisors 25/26

This 4-day course is based on the CSA F280-12 (R2021) “Determining the Required Capacity of Residential Space Heating and Cooling Appliances” a nationally recognized Standard which is referenced by all Canadian Building Codes. This course takes students through step by step calculation to help them determine the required or appropriate appliances after understanding the heat loss and heat gain in building envelope. The calculation includes examining above and below grade HLHG, air leakage and ventilation and the influence that people, appliances and window shading have on the system. The best part: with the successful completion of this course, participants will be recognized by Municipal Building Officials and Plans Examiners for having the technical competency needed to perform residential load calculations and select the appropriate HVAC appliances.  A digital “Residential Heat Loss/Heat Gain Calculations” Course Manual is included with your registration fee.
