Online Basic Principles of Residential Ventilation

Through this online course, participants are introduced to the basic principles of residential ventilation. We start by defining the concept known as “House as a System”; the flow of air, heat, and water and how these impact natural ventilation (aka air leakage). Then we move on to describing the theory of mechanical airflow including air pressure, duct resistance, and fan ratings. A review of the impact on combustion appliances, humidity levels, and indoor air quality is also provided.

There are lots of visuals and periodic quizzes to reinforce the learning objectives!s.

Ongoing – Self-paced

Online Basic Principles of Residential Air Systems

Through this online course, participants are introduced to the basic principles of the residential air system.  A combination of mathematical skills is reviewed to assist in basic calculations of airflow dynamics. Participants then move on to learning basic concepts including covering house construction components, basics of heat loss/heat gain, pressures, ducts & fittings, and an overview of different types of residential forced air systems. The course also covers basic air system selection and regulatory topics.

This online course is a must-have for the HVAC Professional wanting to build their basic knowledge of air system design, and this session is a pre-requisite prior to the full 4-day HRAI Residential Air System Design course.

Residential Heat Loss Heat Gain Calculations

This 4-day course is based on the new CSA standard F-280-12 “Determining the Required Capacity of Residential Space Heating and Cooling Appliances” a nationally recognized standard that is referenced by all Canadian Building Codes. This course takes students through step-by-step calculations to help them determine the required or appropriate appliances after understanding the heat loss and heat gain in the building envelope. The calculation includes examining above and below-grade HLHG, air leakage and ventilation, and the influence that people, appliances, and window shading have on the system. The Best Part: With the successful completion of this course, participants will be recognized by municipal building officials and plan examiners for having the technical competency needed to perform residential load calculations and select the appropriate HVAC appliances.  A digital “Residential Heat Loss/Heat Gain Calculations” Course Manual is included with your registration fee. For a Hard Copy Manual, a $35 fee is added to your registration fee to assist with the shipping charges.
